It
is the capital of the Republic of Cuba with a population
of 2.2 million and was built in 1515.
It has a semitropical
climate. The average temperature of year is 25`C, and the
highest is 35`C. As an island country with sea breeze, it
will prevent you from suffering the provoking broil.
Especially when you stand in the tree shadow, even at noon
time when the burning sun is high, the breeze from the sea
may give you a nice kind of coolness.
Havana is
divided into two parts, the old part and the new part. In
the east is the old Havana and in the west is the Vedado
Area. There are many key points of interest and historic
sites in the old Havana. The structures there belong to
an exceptive style, so the UNESCO claimed it a world historic
legacy in 1982. Before Castro got the regime, Cuba had all
along been the backyard of Americans. Rich Americans had
built a lot of luxurious villas in Havana, all in the Vedado
Area. When the revolution triumphed, most of these villas
became locus of foreign consulates.
Cuba has a lot of beautiful beaches; especially the white-sanded
Varadero beach is world famous. It is really fair and charming
under the proper palms of the southland.
Now the government has paid much attention to the tourist
resource exploitation. According to the statistic of 1999,
foreign exchange income gained by tourism had been more
than one billion dollars.
