National Coat Of Arms

The National coat of arms represents Cuban island. It is an ojival, heart-shaped form divided into three sections. In its upper horizontal part, there is a golden key between two mountains, and a sun rising above the sea - which symbolises the geographic position of Cuba in the Gulf of Mexico, between North America and South America, in the midst of the emergence of a new state. The blue and white strips, represent the situation of the island, in terms of its division into states, in the colonial days. The right vertical section is a Cuban landscape with a royal palm tree in its center representing the unyielding
character of Cuban people.

National Flag

In 1850 the flag was hoisted for the first time.with simplicity and perfect and harmony, it combines three colours:red, white and blue.The three blue stripes stand for the three states in which the island was divided into by then;two white stripes - the force of the idealistic independence fighter;
a red triangle - representing equality, fraternity and liberty, and at the same time, the blood which had to be spillt during the battles for independence and a white star, alone - as a symbol of the absolute liberty between other nations.

National Flower

Butterfly Jasmine. White color with an exquisite scent and floral fragrance, symbolizing purity,fight and independence.It was used by cuban women during the independence war to tramsmit messages among the rebeling forces.

National Anthem

The Cuban national anthem was born in the city of Bayamo in the heart of the independence struggle. Having composed the melody in 1867, Pedro Figueredo wrote--with a great sense of independence--the lyrics of this heroic hymn when the insurgent troops seized said city in 1868.
"Al combate corred, bayameses
Que la Patria os contempla orgullosa
No temáis una muerte gloriosa
Que morir po r la Patria, es vivir.

En cadenas vivir es vivir
En afrenta y oprobio sumidos,
Del clarín escuchad el sonido
A las armas, valientes, corred".
